We are very proud to announce that Mr. Robin Houlette was the recipient of the  “2020 Outstanding Fair Supporter” at the 2021 Virtual OFMA  Convention.  Additionally, Robin was the recipient of the "Director's Award for Innovation and Excellence"

Robin Houlette has been a lifelong resident of Columbiana County; he grew up on State Route 7 outside of Columbiana until the 8th grade when his father relocated the family 3 miles outside of Lisbon. Robin's teen years were spent helping his father maintain their family farm. Robin had a knack and early love for heavy equipment and farm machinery, which he picked up on as a boy living next to his Grandfather's dairy farm, Agricultural Hall of Famer-the Late Cary Houlette. This passion led Robin to create his own personal businesses involving trucking, excavation, and farm equipment.

Over a 30-year span, Robin built his own empire of heavy equipment which would prove beneficial for his future role as a Fair Board member and the Columbiana County Fairgrounds would be the benefactor. Robin was elected in 2006, and served 13 years for Columbiana County, which brought a mastermind of demolition skills, excavation, grading, and equipment to the table that proved crucial for the development of grounds' projects across the county fair’s complex. Robin also brought to the Fair Board an exceptional business sense, skill set, and values, which played a key role in the reversal of how the fair would go from functioning under financial loss to a profitable gain.

Robin would donate any and all equipment he had in is possession for any project concerning the fairgrounds.  A few accolades Robin was instrumentally involved in were the demolition of the old Steer Barn, long before he was a Fair Board member, excavation of the upper midway to provide a better landscape for the amusement rides area, stormwater management, and the major undertaking of the new grandstands and associated midway improvements, and the 2017 Bow String Bridge project. His expertise and dedication to the betterment of the grounds are unconditional and never-ending. His devotion to the service of our community is evident each and every day.

Of all these projects and experiences, Robin's greatest love was working with the Junior Fair and 4-H young men and women, always stating “these kids know how to put in a hard day's work." "They bring a strong work ethic to the fairgrounds and are always eager to make it a better place". Robin had many successful businesses over the years, RL Houlette Demolition Service Co, Houlette Trucking and HMF Recycling, are just a small glimpse into his hearty work ethic which he bestows on others.  Robin is also a strong supporter of the Lisbon Parks Department and Lisbon High School, donating $1000's dollars in equipment for park and stadium projects.

In April of 2019,  Robin suffered a massive heart attack and his normal duties and attributes as a Fair Board member were no more, but he found a way to contribute by driving the courtesy wagons transporting fair-goers back to their cars. Due to a variety of major health issues and rehabilitation, Robin decided not to seek re-election and was named an Ex-offcio in 2020. Robin is currently semi-retired and his hobbies include restoration of antique farm trucks, being a master recycler, and spending time with his pride and joy, his children and grandchildren, Dana & Michael Blackburn, Steven and Mindi Houlette, Peyton and Brice Blackburn, Sefton and Ashten Houlette, Ashley & Jr Haines, Erin Blackburn, John Blackburn, Taylor &  Brennen Rourke, as well as his 7 great children, Kadynce Gordon, Hadyn Jones, Gavyn & Chloe Haines, Tessa, Lilah, and Adalyn Rourke, all of which he continues to mold by teaching and sharing his strong work ethic, pride, and passion. His son Steve and grandson Brice have both followed in his footsteps in the excavation business.
Robin still contributes to the Columbiana County Fair to this day and is always coming up with successful ideas.
The Columbiana County Fair Board is proud to recognize Robin as an individual within our community that has made a positive and productive impact on the Columbiana County Fair.
